There is nothing like an action-thriller about a spy to reinvent an actor. Emraan Hashmi dons a bulletproof vest for the Netflix adaptation of the bestselling novel, Bard of Blood.
Produced by Shah Rukh Khan's Red Chillies Entertainment, the series will see Hashmi play the Indian secret agent, Adonis, on a mission to save his compatriots in the fraught Balochistan region.
The trailer begins in a linear narrative from the capture of five Indian secret agents by a group of radicals in the Balochistan region. As the five are kept under the shadow of death, Indian intelligence agencies seek to find an escape route.
Agency head Rajit Kapur suggests the idea to bring back the super-agent Adonis aka Kabir Anand (Emraan Hashmi). Joining an analyst (Sobhita Dhulipala) and a sleeper agent (Vineet Kumar Singh), Kabir steps out of the classroom to set things right.
Directed by Ribhu Dasgupta, the series is an adaptation of the novel of the same name by Bilal Siddiqui. The trailer promises a good deal of action, with an intriguing storyline to boast of.
With Emraan Hashmi leading the cast, there is also the presence of familiar faces like Sobhita Dhulipala, Vineet Kumar Singh, Jaideep Ahlawat and Rajit Kapur who are capable of holding up the drama.
The trailer also holds some moments of suspense with regards to the nature of Kabir Anand's personality and his past. There is also the blink and miss appearance of Kirti Kulhari, whose role is not clarified.
The high production value, and impressive action sequences add to the excitement around the project. In all, the trailer makes for an interesting and gripping watch.
Bard of Blood will stream on Netflix from 27 September onwards.
