Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Tajinder Pal Singh Bagga has filed a complaint against filmmaker Anurag Kashyap for allegedly hurting the sentiments of Sikhs in the second series of Netflix's Sacred Games. The complaint is regarding a scene where actor Saif Ali Khan, who plays Sartaj Singh, throws his kada (cast iron bracelet) into the sea.
Kashyap has been booked under sections 295-A (damaging sacred object), 153, 153-A (attack on religion), 504 (provocation to break peace) and 505 (spreading rumours) of the IPC and Information Technology Act. “I filed a complaint at Parliament Street police station against Sacred Games director Anurag Kashyap for disrespecting Sikh Kakaars. In a scene of Sacred Games, a Sikh character played by Saif Ali Khan threw his kada which is one of the Kakaars revered by the Sikhs," Bagga said to NDTV.com.
However, the aforementioned scene wasn’t directed by Kashyap as he has only directed the scenes featuring Nawazuddin Siddiqui. The scenes featuring Khan are directed by filmmaker Neeraj Ghaywan, who made his directorial debut with Masaan (2015). In the first season, Khan's scenes were directed by Vikramaditya Motwane, who was replaced by Ghaywan for the second season.
When Cinestaan.com reached out to Bagga to point out that Kashyap hasn’t directed the said scene, he said, “This is the information I had got. The rest will be investigated by the police and then other names will also pop up. I only knew Anurag Kashyap’s name. The rest of the names were unknown. Now I won’t know which scene is directed by whom. If this is true, Anurag ji will tell [the police] that he hasn’t directed, someone else has.”
Before hanging up, when Bagga was asked as to why the writers weren’t sued since the scene was written by them, he said, “I have complained only against Anurag ji because he is paying everyone [on the show].”
