Sushant Singh Rajput and Shraddha Kapoor's return to college in 'Fikar Not' for Chhichhore (2019) is familiar in more than one way. As the old 'loser' gang returns to their stomping ground, they are greeted by their own future selves regaling them to a song. While the concept is fairly new, the song itself has elements that are both entertaining, charming, and enjoyable.
The song begins with the sight of the young students (Sushant Singh Rajput, Shraddha Kapoor, Tahir Raj Bhasin, Varun Sharma, Naveen Polishetty) entering the party scene. Their worries dissipate when their own imperfect future selves take to the dance floor to assure them. The dance moves might not be much, but they capture the 'bindaas' attitude of the grown-ups and the sense of abandon they have.
The song, composed by Pritam, has a lot of familiar interludes. The signature element also has a ringing reminder to the Jagga Jasoos (2017) song 'Galti Se Mistake'. Even the sepia-toned shots of the song have elements of the Ranbir Kapoor song.
However, the song has a medley of voices from Nakash Aziz, Dev Negi, Amit Mishra, Amitabh Bhattacharya, Sreerama Chandra, and Antara Mitra. While not all of them find the time to get their voices in, Antara Mitra and Nakash Aziz do a decent job of leading the chorus. While it is not a spectacular score by Pritam's measures, the song certainly adds another dimension to the interest of this Nitesh Tiwari project.
Chhichhore, directed by Nitesh Tiwari, is due to be released on 6 September 2019.
