The Malayalam movie Moothon has been selected to be this year’s opening film at the 21st Mumbai Film Festival. Directed by Geetu Mohandas, the film is co-produced by Anurag Kashyap, who has also written the Hindi dialogues.

The announcement was made by the festivaI on its official Instagram page. “Geetu Mohandas’s gritty and poignant #Moothon will open our 21st edition. Thank you Anurag Kashyap, Geetu Mohandas for sharing your film with us,” said the post along with the poster of the film.

Moothon stars Nivin Pauly, Sobhita Dhulipala, Shashank Arora, Dileesh Pothan, Roshan Mathew and Harish Khanna.

The makers had shared the teaser of the film earlier this year. Only featuring actor Nivin, the teaser feels like a dark crime drama.

This is Mohandas’s second film as a director after Liar’s Dice (2016), which starred Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Geetanjali Thapa. The National Award-winner for Best Actress and Best Cinematography was India’s official entry for the Oscars for Best Foreign Language Film.

This year, the Mumbai Film Festival will take place from October 17 to 24 at various venues in the city.
