Ajith Kumar’s latest Tamil thriller Nerkonda Paarvai, a remake of Taapsee Pannu's Hindi film Pink (2016), has grossed a staggering Rs70 crore in its opening weekend worldwide, according to trade pundits.

“Nobody in the trade expected the film to do so well," Trinath told Cinestaan.com. "We all expected it to do decent business because it’s an Ajith film, but these numbers are truly phenomenal. It grossed around Rs70 crore in four days. It collected around Rs45 crore from Tamil Nadu and the rest came from the rest of India and overseas.”
The film, directed by H Vinoth and also starring Shraddha Srinath, Abhirami Venkatachalam and Andrea Tariang, has been produced by Boney Kapoor and has music by Yuvan Shankar Raja.
Nerkonda Paarvai saw Ajith don the role of a lawyer for the first time in his career. The star was lauded for his subdued performance in the film which has been produced by Boney Kapoor.
The project came through to honour’s Ajith’s promise to the late Sridevi while they were working together in English Vinglish (2012). It was Sridevi’s wish at the time that her husband produce a film with Ajith.
Boney Kapoor has already signed Ajith for another project, currently dubbed Thala 60. This will also be directed by Vinoth.
