Fresh off his National Best Actor award for Andhadhun (2018) — shared with Vicky Kaushal for Uri: The Surgical Strike (2019) — Ayushmann Khurrana returns with a light-hearted comedy about a man who speaks to people as a woman, Pooja, as his day job. His side job seems to be taking on the parts of women, as Sita and Radha, in his local plays.
Writer Raaj Shaandilyaa turns director with Dream Girl (2019), which puts Khurrana up in the title role. The actor is game for whatever is thrown at him as he enthusiastically takes up his job as 'good friend' Pooja at the call centre of sorts. Pretty soon, he has the characters of Vijay Raaz, Nidhi Bisht, and Abhishek Banerjee all lined up for his, actually Pooja's, hand.
Meanwhile, Nushrat Bharucha's character also has dreams of marriage with him. With so many prospective grooms and brides, will the truth ever come out?
Set in Mathura, the comedy has been written by Shaandilyaa himself and also stars Annu Kapoor as Khurrana's father, Manjot Singh, Rajesh Sharma and Raj Bhansali. The film is due to be released on 13 September.
