After Bombay Talkies (2013) and Lust Stories (2018), filmmakers Karan Johar, Anurag Kashyap, Zoya Akhtar and Dibakar Banerjee will now be joining hands once again for another anthology called Ghost Stories. As per the name, it will feature four horror stories. The series is expected begin filming sometime this month (August).
This is the first time that the four directors would be helming a film of this genre. Akhtar, however, was the co-writer of the supernatural thriller Talaash (2012) starring Aamir Khan, Kareena Kapoor Khan and Rani Mukerji. The film was co-written and directed by Reema Kagti.
For Johar, the horror genre has been too scary even as a viewer. “I have always been mortified to watch the horror genre and have always stayed very far away from any ghost story! So to direct one is not only hugely challenging but also exceptionally exciting,” he said while talking to the news agency IANS.
Ghost Stories will be produced by Ronnie Screwvala under his banner RSVP Motion Pictures, in association with Ashi Dua of Flying Unicorn Entertainment, and will stream on Netflix, just like Lust Stories.
Srishti Behl Arya, the director international originals at Netflix India, said that when Johar, Kashyap, Akhtar and Banerjee came to them and offered to present an anthology of horror stories, they got excited and agreed to back the project.
