Actor Rajinikanth’s next film will see him join hands with filmmaker AR Murugadoss for the first time. The latest update is that Nayanthara has been signed as the leading lady. This will be her third film with Rajinikanth after Chandramukhi (2005) and Kuselan (2008).
Currently dubbed Thalaivar 167, the project is expected to go on the floors later this week in Mumbai.
“The rumours about the cast of Thalaivar 167 are not authentic. As of now, only Nayanthara has been roped in. Kindly do not spread news until you get an official press release about the entire confirmed cast,” Rajinikanth’s publicist Riaz Ahmed said on Monday.

The rest of the cast and crew are yet to be officially announced. However, it has already been confirmed that Anirudh Ravichander has been roped in to compose the music.
The film was originally to be bankrolled by Sun Pictures, which backed out after the recent Sarkar (2018) controversy. Now, Lyca Productions, makers of 2.0 (2018), have taken over the reins of the project and are said to have given the go-ahead.
Not long ago, popular lensman Santosh Sivan confirmed he is officially part of the project. Santosh in February revealed that he is thrilled to be signed for Rajinikanth’s next film. He took to Twitter and wrote: “Finally, very excited to work with Rajini sir after Thalapathy."

This would be the third outing for Lyca Productions with Rajinikanth after 2018's Kaala and 2.0. In several of his recent interviews, Murugadoss hinted that his next film could be a fantasy adventure and one can assume that it might be the one with Rajinikanth.
