In a male-dominated industry, female actresses have had it tough to get due recognition. Kriti Sanon, who is coming on the back of the success of her film Luka Chuppi (2019), has said that the efforts of the leading lady shouldn’t go unrecognized. She was speaking to tabloid Mumbai Mirror. She featured in Luka CHuppi alongside Kartik Aaryan.

“This business of overlooking the leading lady has been going [on] for a while and it’s so unfair. I am glad this conversation is finally happening. It’s logical to talk about only the male protagonist when but when they are both carrying a film on their shoulders, the credit should be equally shared. Everybody deserves a mention,” Sanon told the tabloid.

Sanon is not the first actress to speak about the lack of appreciation for female leads. Taapse Pannu had earlier voiced her opinion.

Pannu’s latest film Badla (2019) has been a resounding success, as the thriller, directed by Sujoy Ghosh, crossed over Rs80 crore nett at the box office. Recently, Pannu had taken an offence to a tweet by a publication that only mentioned the name of the leading men while stating that Badla and Luka Chuppi were doing well at the box office. Badla features Pannu and Amitabh Bachchan in lead roles.

Retweeting the post, Pannu had taken a cheeky dig at the entertainment portal, pointing out that women in the mentioned films also worked hard.

Sanon also spoke about the pay disparity and mentioned the criteria that should be considered for remuneration.

“Remuneration should be in sync with two things — your role in the film and your capacity to pull in the audience. There have been instances in the past when actresses have been paid more than the hero. For me, money is important, but never the reason to do a film. The script, my character and the crew are the key considerations,” said Sanon.

For the record, Luka Chuppi has so far made Rs86.43 crore nett in the domestic box office collection.

Post Luka Chuppi, Sanon has a host of films coming up – Maddock Films’ Arjun Patiala, Sajid Nadiadwala’s Housefull 4, and Ashutosh Gowariker’s Panipat.
