As if two lead actresses were not enough, Tiger Shroff gets to dance with Alia Bhatt in the latest song from the upcoming film, Student Of The Year 2. The Dharma production brings Shroff and Bhatt together on screen for the first time in the 'Hook Up Song'. Sung by Shekhar Ravjiani and Neha Kakkar, the song is composed by Vishal-Shekhar.
The song introduces the duo, the couple hooking up so to speak, in a flashy, glamorous avatar. From the moment she slides down the pole, Bhatt is the epitome of glamour in a song that can only be described as the gold foil on the dish that is the film.
Considering the fact that Shroff's character is supposedly middle-class, this is likely a dream that he shares with a million other men in India. Regardless, the dream is understandably choreographed with a production design that matches Dharma Poductions' standard.
The music, nevertheless, is quite catchy. The opening synthesizer beat feels familiar, and grows on you. Ravjiani and Kakkar bring in the vocals that are easy and make you want to sing along. Kakkar, in particular, has a more influential range in the song. Vishal-Shekhar's composition has a lot going for it, including the hummable quality of the rhythms. Yet, safe to say, it is not one of their greatest hits.
The choreography has little to speak, but both actors move with practiced co-ordination. Shroff uses the song to again display his flexibility and impeccable dance moves. The song has been publicised much, but lacks chemistry between the two actors.
With a title that says 'Hook Up Song', it would be unfair to expect extraordinary lyrics. Kumaar does manage to switch from spoken Punjabi to Hindi and English with ease, but has nothing to spark your curiosity or interest.
Student Of The Year 2 is directed by Punit Malhotra, and is set for release on 10 May.
