Theatre personality Anjan Kanjilal is all set to direct his first feature film Sahobase, featuring his actor son Anubhav Kanjilal and actress Ishaa Saha in the lead. A film on the crisis faced by the confused youth of this generation, Sahobase will also have Raul Arunodoy Banerjee, Saayoni Ghosh, Debolina Dutta Mukerjee, Tulika Basu and Subhashish Mukherjee in important roles.

In the film, Saha and Anubhav’s characters decide to live together in order to curb their expenses. Anubhav works in the IT sector, while Saha is an employee at a creative agency. “The young generation are quite unstable these days. They are professionally insecure. They don’t want to get married or take any responsibility. They want to escape from every situation and find relief. I want to show a dichotomy of mindset through two generations,” stated the director in an interview with the daily Ananda Bazar Patrika.

The elder generation couple will be played by Subhashish and Basu. Through their relationship, the director wishes to bring a contrast of mentality between the two generations.

The director also added, “I don’t want to give any lecture through the film. I feel, the young generation is extremely fickle minded regarding love, profession and relationships. They have a lot of insecurities.”

Debolina will play a maid servant and her narrative is also going to contribute in Saha and Anubhav’s complex equation.

Echoing to the director’s view, Saha admitted that her generation has a phobia of commitment. “Whether they (Saha and Anubhav) are eventually able to make commitments will be seen in the film. Interestingly, various other characters’ stories are also associated to their own journey.” Saha said that her character is quite different from all the previous characters she has played. She also mentioned that she has rested immense faith in the director.

For Anubhav, shooting for the film is going to be a unique experience as after working under the direction of his father in theatre for the last 12 years, he will be working before the camera with him for the first time. “I have seen that Baba loves to work within an organised framework. Needless to say that he will work in the same pattern for the film as well. I have already enacted in this story on the stage quite a few times, and hence, I already have a set graphics on my mind,” stated the young actor, who is looking forward to giving his best in his father’s films.

The film is already on the floors and will be shot in various locations of Kolkata and North Bengal.
