Actress Nayanthara, last seen playing dual roles in Airaa (2019), on Tuesday joined the sets of superstar Rajinikanth’s Darbar in Mumbai, the makers revealed via a statement.

Being directed by AR Murugadoss, Darbar features Nayanthara as the leading lady. This will be her third outing with Rajinikanth after Chandramukhi (2005) and Kuselan (2008).

The poster of Darbar has made it evident that Rajinikanth plays a cop in the film, which has been confirmed to hit the screens next year during the Sankranti festival. He returns to playing a police officer after 25 years. His last cop outing was 1992 film Pandian.

Tipped to be an investigative thriller, the entire film will be shot in Mumbai. Last week, it was announced that Prateik Babbar has been roped in as one of the antagonists.

While Anirudh Ravichander will compose the music, Sreekar Prasad will take care of the editing. This February, popular lensman Santosh Sivan revealed that he is thrilled to be signed for Rajinikanth’s next film. He had written on Twitter then: “Finally, very excited to work with Rajini sir after Thalapathy."

This would be the third outing for Lyca Productions with Rajinikanth after Kaala (2018) and 2.0 (2018).

The film was originally supposed to be bankrolled by Sun Pictures, who backed out after the recent Sarkar controversy.
