Spin-off film on MC Sher from Gully Boy in the making?

In March this year director Zoya Akhtar had revealed that she and the film’s co-writer Reema Kagti are working on another hip-hop film.

Reports suggest that filmmaker Zoya Akhtar is planning a spin-off on the character MC Sher from Gully Boy (2019). The character is played by Siddhant Chaturvedi, who struck a chord with cinegoers despite the presence of big names like Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt.

The makers released a note quoting a source saying, “Siddhant's character MC Sher became a sensation soon after the release, fans have been bombarding the makers to know more about his character, therefore the team is considering a movie entirely based on Siddhant's character.”

There hasn’t been any official confirmation from Akhtar or anyone associated with the film.

However, in March this year Akhtar had revealed that she and the film’s co-writer Reema Kagti are working on another hip-hop film. “My co-writer Reema Kagti and I do feel there is so much more to be said on the entire hip-hop culture in our country. And another film exploring the theme is being scripted and planned,” she had said to Deccan Chronicle.

Taapsee Pannu-starrer Naam Shabana (2017) is considered to be the first spin-off in Hindi cinema. The character of the actress was taken forward from the Akshay Kumar-starrer Baby (2015). Now, it seems Akhtar and Kagti are all set to follow the same for Gully Boy. Keep watching this space for more details.
