Actor Jatin Sarna has also joined filmmaker Kabir Khan's squad of '83. The actor is set to play middle-order batsman Yashpal Sharma in the film about India's first cricket World Cup triumph back in 1983. The film is slated for release on 10 April 2020.
The announcement comes on the eighth anniversary of India's second World Cup triumph in 2011. Sarna became known after his performance as the gangster Bunty in the Netflix Original series, Sacred Games.
The inventor of 'Badam Shot', #YashpalSharma, has found his reel match in @jatinsarna! P.S. This will be an 'unforgettable' performance for sure 😉. #CastOf83 #Relive83@RanveerOfficial @kabirkhankk @RelianceEnt #MadhuMantena @vishinduri pic.twitter.com/FDBdKT0wn3

The makers announced Sarna's casting as the 'inventor of the badam shot' on Twitter. The 'badam shot' was a name given to a flick that became one of Sharma's trademarks in the field.
A middle-order batsman, Sharma was used sparingly in the World Cup of 1983, but proved handy in the opening match of the tournament. He scored 89 not out in the match against the West Indies, leading to the then world champions losing for the first time in the tournament.
Sharma also played a key role in the semi-final against England, top-scoring with 61 runs.
'83 features Ranveer Singh in the lead as Kapil Dev, alongside a cast of Ammy Virk, Jiiva, Tahir Raj Bhasin, Saqib Saleem and Pankaj Tripathi, among others. The film is slated for release on 10 April 2020.
