It has been confirmed that Vishal and filmmaker Mysskin are set to reunite for the second time for the sequel to their highly successful investigative thriller, Thupparivaalan (2017).
Mysskin recently met Vishal at Cappadocia in Turkey where the latter is currently shooting for the Sundar C directorial venture. A picture from their meeting has been posted on social media by Vishal’s publicist, confirming their collaboration for Thupparivaalan 2.
Vishal and Mysskin have decided to commence work on Thupparivaalan 2 from later this year.
According to a source privy to the development, the principal shooting will begin from November as soon as Vishal completes Sundar C’s project.
In Thupparivaalan, Vishal played a detective called Kaniyan Poogundran, inspired by Sherlock Holmes. Actor Prasanna played his sidekick, a character very close to Sherlock’s partner Dr Watson.
The film, which went on to click at the box office, also featured Vinay Rai, Andrea Jeremiah and Anu Emmanuel in important roles.
Even before the release of Thupparivaalan, Vishal had announced a sequel. He was so impressed with the film that he said he will definitely join hands with Mysskin for the second part.
The release of Thupparivaalan was marred by controversies when a section of the audiences claimed the film was heavily inspired from the stories of Sherlock Holmes.
“Everyone gets inspired from something or the other. Edgar Allen Poe came up with the first detective story and then came Sherlock Holmes. There is a thin line between inspiration and plagiarism,” Mysskin had said in a statement.
“My story has nothing related to Sherlock Holmes or other detective movies. Thupparivaalan has anecdotes from Subramaniya Bharathi, Mahatma Gandhi; there is love, friendship and ego. This is something I always wanted to write,” he added.
