Mother Poonam Sinha will take care of her constituency just like her house, says Sonakshi Sinha

News has just come in that Poonam Sinha, wife of actor-politician Shatrughan Sinha, has joined the Samajwadi Party. As per reports, she is likely to contest against the Bharatiya Janata Party's Rajnath Singh in Lucknow.

Interestingly, earlier this month, Shatrughan Sinha had joined the Congress after his relationship with the BJP turned sour over the past few years.

Actress Sonakshi Sinha, daughter of Poonam and Shatrughan, expressed happiness at her mother’s decision to join politics. “I am so happy. Finally my mom is doing this. I have been pushing and encouraging her for the longest time, but even now she is like, ‘How can I leave my kids and go?’ I am like, ‘bachchhe bade ho gaye hain, jao!’” Sonakshi Sinha said during interviews for her upcoming film, Kalank.

Elaborating, she said politics needs good people like her mother. “She feels very passionately about it. The kind of person she is, she is so warm. She is a people’s person. The way she takes care of her house and family, I am sure she will take care of her constituency as well,” she said.

With both parents in politics, Sonakshi Sinha was asked if she takes an interest in the subject and plans to join politics too. “I am aware [about politics], but I am as aware as I should be. A lot of people ask me about my plans in politics. But I feel just because my father is a politician doesn’t mean I should or could become one. I don’t have the aptitude for it. I am happy with films.”

Poonam Sinha acted in Hindi cinema under the screen name Komal in her early career. She was crowned Miss Young India in 1968.
