Vicky Kaushal teams up with Uri makers for a mythological epic, Ashwatthama

The actor has reportedly signed on with Ronnie Screwvala's production, RSVP, for Aditya Dhar's next.

The team of Uri: The Surgical Strike (2019) is set to return with another periodical. According to reports, actor Vicky Kaushal is in talks to play the lead in Aditya Dhar's next film based on the legend of Ashwatthama from the Mahabharata. The makers are currently working on the script and will soon set out on recces for location.

The tabloid Mumbai Mirror quoted a source stating, "After Uri the makers wanted to return with something big and interesting. Aditya has been working on this script since a long time, even before Uri released. And when he sounded out Ronnie and Vicky, they immediately jumped on board."

The film will revolve around the story of Ashwatthama. The son of Drona, who was the teacher of both the Pandavas and the Kauravas in the Mahabharata, Ashwatthama was considered by many to be one of the most powerful warriors in the battlefield. However, his anger was considered to be his weakness and was used by the Pandavas in the course of their victory. Ashwatthama is also one of the legendary immortals in Hindu mythology and cursed to wander through earth for eternity.

The collaboration is certainly impressive considering the last time RSVP backed Dhar's Uri featuring Kaushal, the film proved to be a blockbuster earning 10 times its initial investment. The film also proved to be a surprise for its long run at the theatres.

Kaushal is currently working on two period films — Takht with Karan Johar, and Shoojit Sircar's biopic on Udham Singh.

The report also suggests that Dhar is currently working on the script and will begin shooting for the film later this year.
