Filmmaker Gopi Nainar, who rose to fame after directing Nayanthara starrer Aramm (2018), has been struggling for over a year to get his second film made. After rumours made the rounds that he might join hands with Siddharth or GV Prakash Kumar, it has finally been confirmed that his next film will star Bobby Simha.
Best remembered for his award-winning performance in Karthik Subbaraj’s Jigarthanda (2014), Bobby Simha was last seen in Rajinikanth’s Petta.
Talking about the project, Simha told The Times Of India: “It will very much be a commercial film, but with a strong undercurrent of a social message that Gopi Nainar is known for. The rest of the cast and crew are being finalised now. We might have a 'Bollywood' A-lister playing a prominent role,” he said.
Simha further added that he hasn’t been offered such a role since he did Jigarthanda. “After Jigarthanda, this is the role that I have been most excited about. We are going on the floors in June, and I can’t wait to start shooting this film.”
Meanwhile, Nainar is believed to have also got the go ahead for his boxing-based drama featuring actor Jai. This yet-untitled film is believed to go on the floors soon. It will also stars Aishwarya Rajesh as the leading lady.
This film will supposedly be a record of the history of boxing in Chennai, particularly North Madras, the rivalry between the various boxing groups and how that turned the region into a violent one.
