Music composer AR Rahman's first film as producer and writer is finally being unveiled to the world on 21 June. The musical will be jointly produced by Rahman's YM Movies and Jio Studios. It will be released in three languages — Hindi, Tamil and Telugu.
Rahman made the announcement late last evening, calling his debut production a "young, passionate love story, with music at its soul". The international composer thanked everyone for the "love, support, and encouragement" they extended towards him for the project.

Directed by Vishwesh Krishnamoorthy, 99 Songs stars a cast of yet undiscovered artistes, Ehan Bhat, Edilsy Vargas, and Tenzin Dalha. Lisa Ray and Manisha Koirala also have key roles in the film.
In Krishna Trilok's autobiography, Notes of a Dream, on Rahman, the author noted that the long-in-the-making film was close to the composer's heart.
The love story is "reminiscent of Damien Chazelle's 2016 hit La La Land and Rahman himself called it "a fairy tale" in the book.
With music by Rahman, 99 Songs will go up against Kabir Singh, starring Shahid Kapoor, on 21 June.
