De De Pyaar De song: 'Vaddi Sharaban' Rakul Preet Singh gives you a high

De De Pyaar De (2019) is titled after a song from Amitabh Bachchan's film Sharabi (1984). While the stories are poles apart, De De Pyaar De has a song that speaks of a woman's love for alcohol.

Producer Luv Ranjan had Nusrat Bharucha salivating for whisky in the 'Chhote Chhote Peg' song from Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety (2018) and now it’s Rakul Preet Singh who is a ‘Vaddi Sharaban’ (big alcoholic) in De De Pyaar De. The makers released the 'Vaddi Sharaban' song today.

Punjabis are known to love their drink, but cinema has largely shown men show off their drinking habit. Ayesha is a woman who likes whisky and the role reversal could be construed as a sign of liberation.

Kumaar’s lyrics are heavy on Punjabi and 'Vaddi Sharaban' is a celebration. Ayesha and the other women at the party are high on liquor and simply break into a dance. Kumaar’s lyrics go nicely with the song's theme. Though the lyrics are mostly in Punjabi, he includes UP and Bihar in the song.

Sunidhi Chauhan is the pop queen of Hindi cinema and chips in with a strong performance. It’s her co-singer Navraj Hansal whose voice hits you like a smooth, neat whisky.

Composer Vipin Patwa gives a decent score that depends on Punjabi beats. If we compare 'Vaddi Sharaban' to 'Chhote Chhote Peg' from Sonu Ke... and 'Angrezi Weed' from Cocktail (2012), then the music is a little underwhelming.

The big disappointment is the choreography. The Naagin dance goes with the lyrics and it’s always funny, but the rest of the dance doesn’t give you much of a kick. Ajay Devgn has nothing to do in the track save for watching the women dance.
