Last month, there were unconfirmed reports about Amitabh Bachchan and Emraan Hashmi joining hands for the first time in a film produced by Anand Pandit. The makers have now officially announced the film, which will mark well-known writer Rumi Jaffery’s comeback as a director. The film will be out on 21 February 2020.
Sharing his excitement of working alongside Bachchan, Hashmi wrote on his Twitter page: “Super excited to share screen space with @srbachchan sir in @anandpandit63’s next production venture, directed by #RumiJaffery! Releasing on 21st February 2020.”
Although the makers are maintaining that the film is a ‘thrilling entertainer,’ earlier reports said that it is also a courtroom drama and Bachchan will be seen playing the lawyer again after Pink (2016) and Badla (2019).
Speaking about the film, Pandit said in an official statement, “My friendship with Mr Bachchan goes back a long way. I have not met any other actor who matches his skill and commitment. It is an honour to be a part of creating a film with him, and I have always admired Emraan's body of work, so I'm looking forward to seeing him onscreen with the legend for the first time. Given the subject of the film, I do believe we have a winner in our hands.”
Jaffery’s last film as a director was Gali Gali Chor Hai (2012), which starred Akshay Khanna and Mugdha Godse. His other two directorial ventures include God Tussi Great Ho (2008) and Life Partner (2009).
Jaffery has been a part of a long list of successful films as a writer. Interestingly, majority of them have been directed by David Dhawan. These include Coolie No.1 (1995), Saajan Chale Sasural (1996), Judwaa (1997), Hero No.1 (1997), Bade Miyan Chote Miyan (1998), Biwi No. 1 (1999), Haseena Maan Jaayegi (1999) and Mujhse Shaadi Karogi (2004).
