The Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) has cleared the biopic on prime minister Narendra Modi, PM Narendra Modi, with a 'U' certifcation. The film, by Omung Kumar B, featuring Vivek Anand Oberoi in the lead role is now clear for release on 11 April.
In a statement to Indianexpress.com, producer Sandip Ssingh said, "We are very happy that we got the ‘U’ certificate from the Censor Board, and finally the film will be releasing on 11 April. We are also very relieved that the Supreme Court has rejected the plea. It is clear now from everywhere. I hope no political party across India has any problem, because the Election Commission, the CBFC, and all the courts have cleared all the pleas, and our film is ready for release. We are grateful to each and everyone who has prayed for us."
The clearance from the CBFC comes a day after the Supreme Court dismissed a petition seeking a stay on the release of the film citing a violation of the model code of conduct in place during the elections. The court stated that the task of verifying any such violation lies with the Election Commission.
The Election Commission, on the other hand, on 3 April had said that it had no right to execute a stay on the film as that lies within the purview of the CBFC.
The film is set to release in theatres on 11 April, the same day as voting in the general elections begins across India. The elections will go on till 19 May.
