Unlike Why Cheat India (2019), Setters comes across as a more brutal crime thriller.

Early in January 2019, we saw Emraan Hashmi’s Why Cheat India where the actor spearheaded an education scam. Now, actor Shreyas Talpade finds himself in a similar role in director Ashwini Chaudhary’s Setters. The makers released the teaser on Tuesday (9 April) evening.
The leaking of railway examination papers across Mumbai, Delhi and other metros is traced down to mafia in Benaras. Headed by Pavan Malhotra’s character, Talpade is part of this dangerous mafia. Aftab Shivdasani is the man who is entrusted with the task of taking the culprits down.
Why Cheat India projected Hashmi’s character Rakesh Singh as a wily crook, but one with a humane side. Malhotra and Talpade's characters come across as cold-blooded, with the former seeming to be a little psychotic too.
Shivdasani has kept a low profile in the last few years. He was last seen in Great Grand Masti (2016) and has put on weight since.
With a familiar story and the archetypal good v/s bad battle, there is no novelty attached to Setters. It would, however, be interesting to see Shivdasani and Talpade in such characters. Shivdasani has played a policeman before, but that was still a romantic comedy Bin Bulaye Baarati (2011).
Actresses Ishita Dutta and Sonnalli Seygall also play tough characters, weilding guns.
Crime thrillers set in Uttar Pradesh are common and so without star power, Setters come across as just another film in the genre.
Setters will be released on 3 May, where it will compete with Sunny Deol’s Blank.
