Junglee review: The elephants too will trample Vidyut Jammwal’s poor action adventure drama

Directed by American filmmaker Chuck Russell, Junglee is made at an estimated budget of Rs35 crore and was released on approximately 2,000 screens in India. Junglee faces a huge challenge to recover its cost and make reasonable gains.

Meanwhile, Notebook, produced by Salman Khan, has turned out to be a dud. The film managed to collect barely Rs2.50 crore nett in its opening weekend. The film is said to be made at an estimated budget of Rs20 crore and was released on approximately 800 screens in India.

The film opened poorly at Rs60 lakh nett and only made Rs80 lakh nett on Saturday. It finally crossed the Rs1-crore nett mark, making Rs1.10 crore nett on Sunday.

Khan launched two new actors — Zaheer Iqbal and Pranutan Bahl — with Notebook. The last time Khan did that was in Loveyatri (2018) that marked the debut of Khan’s brother-in-law Aayush Sharma and actress Warina Hussain. Loveyatri was released on 1,700 screens and had made Rs7.24 crore nett in its opening weekend. The film faded out thereafter as it only made Rs12.58 crore nett in its lifetime domestic business.

Meanwhile, holdover release Kesari (2019) collected Rs19 crore nett in its second weekend. The Akshay Kumar-starrer period war film has so far collected Rs126 crore nett in its India business.

Made at an estimated budget of Rs100 crore, Kesari was released on 3,600 screens in India. According to sources, Dharma Productions has a Rs65 crore combined satellite, digital and music deal with Zee.
