American actor-singer Nick Jonas may have had a massive fan following even before he got engaged to actress Priyanka Chopra, but he has suddenly found a new audience in India.

On his latest trip to The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, Jonas described his engagement to the Baywatch (2017) actress, and the embarrassing nickname Chopra has for the new 'celebrity couple'.

Asked by host Fallon to describe the beginnings of the relationship, Jonas said the couple were introduced by a friend, and spoke through text messages before meeting up six months ago. Before that, the two had attended the MET Gala in New York back in 2017.

While their appearance together sparked rumours, Jonas said he and Chopra were themselves not sure then. He said, "People would ask us, 'Are you seeing each other?' and we would say, 'No'. They thought we were being coy, and so did we. Until, cut to now, and we are engaged. So the story sort of wrote itself."

However, Jonas admitted that when he met Chopra again five months ago, the connection was immediate. He said, "We met five months ago, and we kinda knew it was immediate. I think we knew it was just right, and jumped right in, and we are very happy."

Considering Chopra has been a regular guest of Fallon's, it was natural for the host to inquire if she was around. Jonas slyly pointed to the crowd, saying, "She's here. Over there."

Jonas also described his trip to India for the very Indian 'roka' or engagement ceremony and seemed quite well versed with it. "Basically it is a confirmation from both sides of the family that they approve of the engagement," he said. "Then there are some beautiful prayers and a connection just for the family to have a chance to meet and hang out and get to know each other. We both left that ceremony with so much joy."

"It is a little different from [New] Jersey," he added.

Then came the embarrassing question from Fallon if the couple had a celebrity nickname for themselves. Never one to be left out, Chopra chimed in saying, "Prick", which left Jonas quite red-faced. "She likes Prick. I don't like that." An opinion seemingly seconded by Fallon.

The singer, who was promoting his next single 'Right Now', also described another embarassing interaction with actor Michael Keaton at the recent US Open. Chopra and Jonas had been accompanied by Joe Jonas and actress Sophie Turner at the tennis tournament.

Priyanka Chopra will next be seen in The Sky Is Pink by Shonali Bose alongside Farhan Akhtar.
