Lupt trailer: The Jaaved Jaaferi-starrer employs tried-and-tested horror tropes

Over the decades, Jaaved Jaaferi has carved a niche for himself as a comedian, often appearing in supporting roles. It is very rare to see him play the lead character. The actor is now set to break this streak with director Prabhuraj’s horror film, titled Lupt.
He plays a character who lives with his wife and daughter (Meenakshi Dixit) but suffers from chronic insomnia. He suddenly begins hallucinating and sees a woman dressed in white. On the advice of his psychiatrist, he sets on a vacation with his family only to be haunted by the visions again. The family too begins to experience the presence of evil spirits on the trip.
Prabhuraj seems to have employed horror tropes that have already been used over and over again in Hindi cinema. The supposedly scary scenes, a woman in white, the haunted house and the background score bring to mind many horror films, especially those made by filmmaker Vikram Bhatt. The trailer of Lupt offers nothing new.
Jaaferi, though, pleases with the restrained act. Vijay Raaz and Karan Aanand make an impact despite speaking just one line in the trailer.
Lupt will be released on 5 October.
