Halkaa song 'Bandeya': Soaring composition sets the tone for Pichku's inspiring scrappy battle with life 

Nila Madhab Panda's Halkaa revolves around the tale of a little boy's decision to build a toilet to tackle the defecation problem that he faces every day. The first song from the film 'Bandeya', composed by Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy builds on this journey of the little boy who saves scrap to collect money and build his dream toilet. 

The visuals of the song capture the slow and arduous journey of Pichku and his friend to build the toilet. As they scrounge for scraps all day and try to save the money, they are fuelled by the dreams of their future. Meanwhile, the boy is terrorised at home by his father (Ranvir Shorey). Only his mother's love continues to help him go forward with his dream. The visuals are simple, and capture the small friendships Pichku builds with people — the banker and the fakir on the streets contribute to his little cause.

The song itself is a very routine inspirational track by Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy. With lyrics by Protique Majoomdar, it is sung by Raman Mahadevan and Ravi Mishra. They deliver quite ably, and the lyrics are filled with emotion. The track builds with an effective pace, but seems to lack the element to take it further. While the composers have an established track record of inspirational songs, it still lacks the spunk of their last film, Soorma (2018). 

The play on life and challenges, and the continued hope that keeps people going is a recurring theme through the song. 

Halkaa is scheduled to be released on 7 September.
