Raftaar to rap for Manto in contemporary promotional music video

Nandita Das's biopic Manto might be set in the 1940s era, but it might have a very contemporary twist to it. Rapper Raftaar has been roped in to create a very modern rap composition as a promotional element. The song will be composed by Raftaar and Sneha Khanwalkar. 

Speaking to Mumbai Mirror, a tabloid, the rapper said, "They wanted me to do this song to bridge the gap between the writer, who passed away in 1955, and the kids today, as nothing much has changed in terms of the mindset over the years." 

Despite the song being based on the late writer, portrayed by Nawazuddin Siddiqui in the film, the rapper stated that the actor will not be a part of the music video. "No, he won’t. We will not mess with the image of Manto," the report quoted him as saying.

The film is based on the key four years during the Partition of India, during which Manto had to move from India to Pakistan. Das's film also stars Rasika Dugal, Rajshri Deshpande, Tahir Raj Bhasin, Paresh Rawal and Rishi Kapoor among others. 

It is not known if the song will be a part of the film, or will just be used as a promotional video before the film is released. 

Manto hits the screens on 21 September.
