In an exclusive interview with us, the director said the sequel will be decided on only once its story is in place.

Rajkummar Rao and Shraddha Kapoor’s newly released horror-comedy Stree has had a good first weekend at the box office, bagging an impressive Rs31.40 crore nett, as reported by Boxoffceindia.com. The film has largely received positive reviews too. Stree is just four days old and a sequel is already in talks.

The film’s climax did suggest the possibility of a sequel and according to producer Dinesh Vijan, a sequel was in the cards since the beginning.

Stree review: When a brilliant cast takes on consistently good comic writing

“A sequel was always on the cards because the film was written that way. We wanted audiences to keep guessing once the climax of the film hit them. It was a calculated misdirect. All the questions will be answered in the sequel, whether she [Shraddha Kapoor's character] was always the ‘chudail’ or whether she has taken up the mantle,” Vijan told ZoomTV.com.

The producer also revealed Stree's original cast will reprise their roles in the sequel and they will announce when the film is due to go under production, which hopefully won’t be too long.

While Vijan is keen, director Amar Kaushik revealed that nothing is confirmed in writing as yet.

Zombieland is the only horror comedy I have watched: Stree director Amar Kaushik

Speaking to Cinestaan.com, Kaushik said, "A lot of people are asking what happens next to the story, in the context of what happened in the last two shots of the film. We thought that if these scenes connect with the people, then we will try to make the second part. Nothing is confirmed for there is nothing in writing,"

Given the positive reviews and the audience response, getting a producer on-board will not be a difficult task. “Yeah, but the story has to be cracked first. All of the box office, good reviews is fine, but we need to crack the story for the second part first. That might take time. Once we have a story, then we can decide on having the sequel. We don’t want to make a sequel just because the first part has done well at the box office," Kaushik added.

A source closely associated with the film, said that if the sequel happens, it will most probably begin only next year.
