Mahesh Bhatt's Jalebi poster inspired by Alfred Eisenstaedt's 1950 photograph?

There is an uncanny resemblance between director Pushpdeep Bhardwaj’s poster and the German-American’s photograph of a sailor leaning out of a train window to kiss a woman.

Mahesh Bhatt's Vishesh Films has announced their next project — Jalebi — starring Rhea Chakraborty and Varun Mitra. The poster of the film was released today (3 September).  The makers are calling it a new-age love story. However, a look at the poster brings one word to mind - bizarre.

Rhea Chakraborty is seen locking lips with Varun Mitra by leaning out of an open window of a bogey in a train. Gone are the days when the hero bid good bye to his his beloved with a flying kiss.

Interestingly, the poster reminds one of a famous photo by late German-American photographer Alfred Eisenstaedt that shows a soldier kissing a woman after returning victorious from World War II. The image was taken in 1950 at the Times Square in New York.

Alfred Eisenstaedt's picture

First-time director Pushdeep Bhardwaj certainly seems to be inspired by Eisenstaedt's classic picture. While the passionate kissing makes for a compelling picture, it could be a nightmare for the railway officials who wouldn’t want to advocate such conduct for the risks it entails.

All said and done, the Jalebi poster looks too sweet. The film is set to be released on 12 October.
