Tanushree Dutta case: Sonam Kapoor, Parineeti Chopra, Anurag Kashyap, Hansal Mehta join chorus for justice

Tanushree Dutta's pleas for the Hindi film industry to raise its voice in her support seem to have finally fallen on the right ears.

After the actress made her charge against veteran actor Nana Patekar, director Rakesh Sarang, and choreographer Ganesh Acharya of misbehaving with her on the sets of Horn OK Pleassss (2009), and later Chocolate (2005) director Vivek Agnihotri, several members of the film industry have stepped out in support of the actress.

After actor-filmmaker Farhan Akhtar and actresses Swara Bhasker, Richa Chadha and Priyanka Chopra spoke up, several directors and artistes have also been emboldened to step up and voice their support for the actress. 

Actress Sonam K Ahuja, daughter of Patekar's contemporary Anil Kapoor, took to Twitter to support the statements issued by film journalist Janice Sequiera and Dutta, stating that 'it is up to us to stand together'. 

The actress admitted that several more of her 'co-workers' have been bullied and harassed but added that 'it is their story to tell'. 

While many felt the males in the industry have been sidestepping the issue, director Anurag Kashyap picked up the baton, tweeting that any speculation on the 'intention of the survivor' needs to stop after the evidence given by the journalist and an assistant director who were present on the sets.

Comedian Vir Das had some apt advice to men wishing to support the #MeToo movement, asking them to 'shut up and listen' to women coming out with their experiences. 

Actress Parineeti Chopra echoed a similar sentiment saying Dutta as a survivor deserves respect for having faced the humiliating experience and come out of it. 

Another outspoken director to step up in support of Dutta was Hansal Mehta. Mehta suggested that doubters in the industry need to ask 'what we can do now' rather than questioning the timing of Dutta's revelation. 

With these statements, the support, at least online, for the actress seems to be growing. Whether this would translate into real action is moot.
