Ani... Dr Kashinath Ghanekar teaser: The Subodh Bhave starrer appears to be a bold biopic

A lot many biopics are being made these days in Hindi cinema, and some of the other language cinemas have also caught on to the trend. While the lives of people from various fields of human endeavour are being explored on screen, a common failing of most biopics has been the glorification of the subject.

This is why the teaser of the forthcoming Marathi film Ani... Dr Kashinath Ghanekar, biopic of the legendary stage and film actor, comes as a breath of fresh air. It actually features some big guns of Marathi theatre and cinema expressing negative feelings about the protagonist, played by Subodh Bhave. These include Master Dattaram (Suhas Palshikar), Vasant Kanetkar (Anand Ingle), Bhalji Pendharkar (Mohan Joshi), Sulochana Latkar (Sonali Kulkarni), Prabhakar Panshikar (Prasad Oak) and Dr Shriram Lagoo (Sumeet Raghvan).

In an exclusive interview with Cinestaan.com earlier, director Abhijeet Shirish Deshpande had promised that this biopic would shock people. And at least the teaser suggests that he has been true to his word.

Amid the boldness, the makers seem to have also worked hard to recreate the atmosphere of Marathi theatre of old, especially in the scenes within and outside Mumbai’s landmark Shivaji Mandir. The craze for Kashinath Ghanekar is also made clear, though this is just a teaser. 

Ani... Dr Kashinath Ghanekar is Deshpande’s directorial debut. The film was earlier supposed to be released on 7 November but is now scheduled for a day later, 8 November.
