Yo Yo Honey Singh's music has its vibe, but it is a far cry from AR Rahman’s brilliant composition for the original.

Not too long ago, T-Series had announced remaking the very popular 'Urvashi Urvashi' song from Humse Hai Muqabala (1994), dubbed Hindi version of Tamil film Kadhalan. The 'Urvasi Urvasi' song from the Tamil film was also dubbed in Hindi as 'Urvashi Urvashi'. Composed by AR Rahman, the original song helped dancer Prabhu Deva shoot to fame. T-Series's remake is now composed and crooned by Yo Yo Honey Singh. The single stars Shahid Kapoor and Kiara Advani.
How does it fare in comparison to the earlier Hindi version?
Honestly, it is quite disappointing on that front. Yo Yo Honey Singh has kept the core lines from the original, but the composer and fellow lyricist Singhsta have done a real shabby job with words. The 'mashallah' in the beginning and at the end of the song is a complete misfit. When you hear something like — “Tu agar kahen to badal du kahani, Elizabeth ke baad tuhje banadun rani [If you want I can change the story, make you the queen after Elizabeth]' — you know the lyrics are a big let down. The original 'Urvashi Urvashi', too, didn’t have great lyrics, but at least, we could say it was lost in translation. Unfortunately, Singh has no so such excuse here.
His music has its vibe; it’s peppy, richer in technology, but it is a far cry from Rahman’s brilliant composition for the original. Once the lyrics disappoint you, it’s hard to pay attention to the singing either. Singh is fairly decent on that part, but it is marred by poor lyrics. He has no else but himself to blame.
What works for the song is the breathtaking choreography by Sanjay Shetty. Shahid Kapoor has always impressed with his dance. However, not many choreographers have been able to tap into this real potential. In this remake, though, Kapoor and the background dancers have put on an electrifying show. Kiara Advani is merely reduced to a glam doll here and is not convincing in the moves she makes.
Strangely enough, video director, DirectorGifty, has employed too many fancy cars and gadgets. The in-your-face shots of branded speakers is jarring.
One can watch the song purely for Shahid Kapoor’s dance.
