Director Aditya Dhar has carved a gripping teaser with a bulked up Vicky Kaushal looking impressive as the soldier who led the surgical strike of 2016.

Actor Vicky Kaushal was much appreciated for his peformance as the soft-spoken Pakistani soldier in Raazi (2018).
Now that he plays an Indian soldier in Uri, a film based on India’s surgical strike in Pakistan occcupied Kashmir on 28 September 2016, Kaushal's fans are waiting with bated breath to cheer for him.
The makers of the film have released the first teaser of the film. Backed by the ruling government, the Indian army carried out a surgical strike to avenge the killing of their soldiers at hands of four Pakistani militants on 18 September in Uri, Kashmir. However, the Pakistani government has denied that such a surgical strike was carried out by India in its territory.
It’s fitting to release the teaser on the second anniversary of the surgical strike. Directed by Aditya Dhar, what strikes you about the teaser is that it does not carry any jingoistic dialogues often found in war films. There is no unnecessary melodrama in the teaser either.
Actor Paresh Rawal narrates the terror attack on Indian soldiers and sends out the strong message — India won’t stay quiet any more. It will enter the enemy's home and kill them.
In the beginning of the teaser, Rawal says that India has never been the first one to start a war. However, in army circles, it is said that such strikes have taken place before, but the 2016 surgical strike was one which was spoken about and celebrated, mostly by the Bharatiya Janata Party.
Having largely excelled in supporting roles in the last year, Kaushal will be pleased that he is the protagonist here. He has bulked significantly for the role, but Kaushik’s intensity has always reflected in his performances. He looks no different in the teaser.
Dhar shows us a glimpse of the heavy action, and cleverly uses the gunshots to build up the tension.
While the teaser does not reveal the names of any of the characters, it would be safe to assume that Kaushal’s army officer is in charge of the operation. Actresses Yami Gautam and Kirti Kulhari do not feature in the teaser at all.
The teaser hits you like a bullet and triggers your curiosity. Uri, produced by Ronnie Screwvala, will be released on 11 January 2019.
