After a disappointing run at the box office in the first weekend (earning Rs21.50 crore), director Shree Narayan Singh’s Batti Gul Meter Chalu had a poor first week too. The film earned Rs3 crore on its first Monday (24 September) and the numbers have only been dwindling since.
The film, starring Shahid Kapoor, Shraddha Kapoor and Yami Gautam, has so far earned only Rs31.50 crore as per figures shared by Boxofficeindia.com.
As per trade sources, Batti Gul Meter Chalu is made at a budget of Rs50 crore. Going by its earnings so far, it looks like the film will have a tough time reaching that score, especially since Sui Dhaag, starring Varun Dhawan and Anushka Sharma, released today (28 September).
Nandita Das’s Manto, the biopic on the late writer Sa'adat Hasan Manto, has been a disaster at the box office. The ensemble film, featuring Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Rasika Dugal in the lead, has earned only Rs3.10 crore in the entire week.
On the other hand, Amar Kaushik's Stree, starring Rajkummar Rao and Shraddha Kapoor, added another Rs9.50 crore to its kitty in the fourth week. The film has so far earned a phenomenal Rs118.96 crore.
Anurag Kashyap’s Manmarziyaan experienced a rough second week, making only Rs5 crore. The total earnings of the film, starring Taapsee Pannu, Vicky Kaushal and Abhishek Bachchan, stands at Rs25.32 crore. The film is made at a budget of Rs25 to Rs30 crore.
