Anupam Kher’s American show New Amsterdam premieres on television


The actor plays Dr Vijay Kapoor in the medical drama.

Anupam Kher's new American medical series, New Amsterdam, had its premiere on television last night and the actor took to social media to ask for good luck from his friends, fans, and followers. Along with the rest of the cast of the new show, Kher was also live-tweeting the first episode which aired on NBC at 10pm.

His Indian followers, and members of Hindi film industry, showed up in force to wish him luck.

Kher gathered with a few of his cast members, Tyler Labine, Freema Agyeman, Jocko Sims, at the Italian restaurant Scarpetta in New York to watch the first episode. He shared that they were "excited and happy" but that he was "a little nervous too".

New Amsterdam's showrunner David Schulner shared that Kher was the first actor to sign on the project. Kher responded by saying, "I loved the script and there was no way I was not going to be part of it. Thank you".

Kher plays Dr Vijay Kapoor, the head of neurology at New York City's New Amsterdam, the oldest public hospital, where Ryan Eggold's Dr Max Goodwin comes as the latest medical director out to shake things up. New Amsterdam airs Tuesdays at 10pm on NBC.
