The wise old man of Indian comics, Chacha Chaudhary, is getting his own animated series in English. Toonz Media Group, in collaboration with Pran’s Features, will broadcast the 26-episode series in India and internationally. They will be the worldwide distribution company of the series, while Zamoza Brands will handle licensing and merchandising rights.
Created by cartoonist Pran Kumar Sharma in the late 1960s, the humorous and fun character of Chacha Chaudhary solves problems intellectually along with his otherworld alien friend Sabu, who hails from Jupiter. Other characters include Chaudhary's wife Bini and his dog Rocket.
The main reason behind the new series is familiarizing the new generation to the comic book character. Sharma's son Nikhil Pran, CEO of Pran's Features, said in a statement, "Our readers who have loved reading Chacha Chaudhary comics since 1960s will now be able to enjoy the animation series. Toonz Animation has taken it to the next level of entertainment for our younger audience who will enjoy the new adventures series of Chacha Chaudhary in animation."
Zamoza Brands CEO, Rohit Sobti added, "Chacha Chaudhary is the first common man superhero and one of the most iconic brands of India. Every Indian young adult relates to Chacha Chaudhary. We have an opportunity to offer product and experiences to the super fans. We as a team are really excited about the possibilities with Chacha’s licensing program for youth and kids."
In 2001, the comic was turned into a live-action show for Sahara TV with actor Raghubir Yadav playing the title character. Rajesh Singh and Madhuri Sanjeev were also part of the cast.
