Loveyatri 'Dholida' song: Tanishk Bagchi's version of this garba number is rivetting

However, a slightly better choreography would have made this into a more visually appealing dance track.

Mayur Lookhar

Opposition from the right wing group, Vishwa Hindu Parishad, has seen producer Salman Khan change the title of Loveratri to Loveyatri. Yatri or ratri, what doesn't change with the title is the celebration of the festival of Navratri and the magic of garba in the film, directed by Abhiraj Minawala.

One of the popular Gujarati garba folk songs is 'Dholida'. Over the years, we’ve seen and heard different versions, but the most famous one was sung by Falguni Pathak, still performed at her annual garba concerts. The makers of Loveyatri have released their version of 'Dholida'.

'Rangtaari' song: Aayush Sharma's energetic garba is an enjoyable addition to Loveyatri

Lyricist Shabbir Ahmed has used the punch line of 'Dholida dhol hayya ma vage vage dholida'. The Gujaratis may be more familiar, but there is magic in these words. Even if you don understand them, their beats attract you. It is common practise to use this punch line and add in new lyrics. It is here that Ahmed scores with his version of 'Dholida'. The added Hindi lyrics blend beautifully with the old lines.

Loveyatri 'Akh Lad Jaave' song: Traditional lyrics go well with Tanishk Baghchi's groovy score

What makes this song enjoyable are the powerful voices of Udit Narayan, Neha Kakkar, Palak Muchchal, Raja Hassan, and the magical composition by Tanishk Bagchi. It is not often that you find Kakkar, Muchchal, and veteran singer Narayan collaborate for a song. They are aided by Hassan, the finalist from Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Challenge 2007. Together, they have created magic.

Loveyatri song: ‘Chogada’ is not the garba anthem you were hoping for

Kakkar is known for her sensuous voice and that is what the singer brings here too. Given the array of singers here, it is very easy to not take notice of Hassan’s powerful voice. Narayan, Muchhal and Kakkar do not disappoint.

With such great voices at his disposal, Baghchi had no room to go wrong. Largely known for doing remakes, he has produced a riveting score for this number. His music arrangement is exemplary. There’s never a drop in the tempo and it takes you from one high to another.

Loveyatri trailer: Abhiraj Minawala presents colourful story of garba teacher

Aayush Sharma, who plays a garba instructor in the film, is found wanting in the dance department. Sharma is slow and looks out of place. Perhaps, the beats are too quick for him. Warina Hussain, too, feels a little listless here. However, Hussain can get away as her character is supposed to be learning the dance form.

A slightly better choreography would have made this into a more visually appealing number. Nevertheless, you can just leave everything aside and tune into this foot tapping number for its music. Dandiya-garba queen Falguni Pathak, too, would give a thumbs-up to Bagchi’s version.

Loveyatri is set to be released on 5 October.
