The keenly anticipated trailer of Arindam Sil’s Byomkesh Gowtro has been released. Starring Abir Chatterjee as the Bengali sleuth Byomkesh Bakshi, the film is based on Sharadindu Bandopadhyay’s story Rakter Daag.
The trailer promises layers of dramatic twists and intensity as it introduces the characters and their conflicts. It begins with Byomkesh drawing an interesting triangle between Satyanweshi (Byomkesh), Satyabati (his wife played by Sohini Sarkar) and Satyakam (Arjun Chakraborty).
He is surprised by the suave Satyakam’s request to investigate into his murder that can take place at any time in his hometown Mussoorie. While his confidante Ajit, played by Rahul Arunodoy Banerjee, enquires into the reasons of his probable murder, Satyakam replies, “I am very popular, rather notorious, the whole of the Moosoorie wants to kill me.”
Satyakam also keeps the identity of the introducer of Byomkesh in the dark, so that he can look for the person himself in Musooorie. He is soon to be killed and the trailer then explores into his scandalous past relationships with various women (Priyanka Sarkar, Bibriti Chatterjee, Sauraseni Maitra) and his lifestyle as a casanova.
While delving into the investigation, Byomkesh learns that Satyakam had serious ideological conflicts with his parents. His father, played by Anjan Dutta, tries to influence Byomkesh’s direction into the enquiry as well.
Byomkesh observes deeply into the fleeting perspective towards life and women of the deceased Satyakam, who knew about his death beforehand; while Satyabati, with her inherent intuitions, comments on the psychology of the women, who loved to surrender themselves to Satyakam.
The trailer includes moments of action and vivid sensuality that seem to play important parts in the film. Also, a few chosen dialogues hint at intriguing twists and help generate expectations from the film as well.
Byomkesh Gowtro also features Anindita Bose, Harsh Chhaya, Indrasish Roy, Suprobhat Das and Baisakhi Marjit in important roles. The film is due to be released on 12 October during the puja.
