Sui Dhaaga song 'Sab Badhiya Hai' celebrates the humble Indian's 'all is well' spirit

The festival of Ganesh Chaturthi is in full swing and it is only wise for any film to cash in on the festivity. Filmmaker Sharat Katariya's Sui Dhaaga: Made In India (2018) is set to be released on 28 September, two days before the festivities come to an end. While this is not song on the deity, it celebrates the spirit of 'sab badhiya hai [all is well]'.

Mauji, Varun Dhawan’s character in the film, is a stubborn man out to prove his detractors wrong. 'Sab Badhiya Hai' song reflects Mauji's determination and reiterates his attitude of being happy even when things don't go his way.

The video begins with Dhawan requesting two gentlemen to add a song to the film. However, citing various reasons, the gentlemen refuse to entertain him. Dhawan takes it as a challenge and promises to come up with a song himself.  

Now, the song begins. Interestingly, Dhawan does not play Mauji here. He is sans the moustache, oiled hair, and simple trouser-shirt look, but clearly carries Mauji’s ‘happy-go-lucky' spirit throughout. With Anushka Sharma's brief appearance in the end, the film's makers have made it abundantly clear that this is just a promotional song and won't be a part of the film.

The choreography by Ruel Dausan Varindani is largely filled with desi moves, but Dhawan does briefly show his skills at western dancing in the early part of the song. The bunch of kids dressed in black come up with some electrifying moves and the women in sari add charm.

This mix of desi-western dance makes for a fine visual appeal. The song is desi at heart, and Varindani’s choreography has a mass appeal.

As for the lyrics, they can be best described as simple. Surprisingly, it’s taken Varun Grover and composer Anu Malik to write the song. 'Sab Badhiya Hai' is not quite up to Grover’s standards, but it does go with the film’s theme. The song celebrates the spirit of the those who are not-so-privileged yet live life to the fullest.

While the lyrics are not very impressive, singer Sukhwinder Singh emotes the spirit aptly. The sheer quality of his voice makes the singer stand out in each track he sings.

Anu Malik’s composition is an ideal desi music for the masses.Coupled with the choreography, 'Sab Badhiya Hai' makes for a fine desi entertaining number.
