South superstar Dhanush makes his international debut with the Indo-French production The Extraordinary Journey of the Fakir, directed by Ken Scott. The actor plays the title character, Ajatashatru Lavash Patel, a charming con man and trickster from Mumbai who travels to Paris with his mother's ashes and goes off on an astonishing adventure from France to UK, Spain, Italy and Libya to find his way back to Marie, the young woman he connects with in a French IKEA store.

An adaptation of the popular French bestseller, The Extraordinary Journey Of The Fakir Who Got Trapped In An Ikea Wardrobe, by Romain Puértolas, the film has an ensemble cast that also includes Oscar-nominees Bérénice Bejo and Barkhad Abdi, Erin Moriarty, and Gérard Jugnot. The music for the film has been composed by Nicolas Errèra and Amit Trivedi.

The Extraordinary Journey Of The Fakir, shot on location in India, France, Italy, and Libya, was promoted at the Cannes Film Festival and had its world premiere in Paris this May. Since then, it has travelled to Australia in August at the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne.

It will have its American premiere at the Silicon Valley film festival.

The Extraordinary Journey Of The Fakir will be screened at the Bay Area South Asian Film Festival 2018 on 21 September at 7:30pm at the Schultz Cultural Hall in Palo Alto, California.
