Badhaai Ho song: 'Badhaaiyan Tenu' hilariously celebrates the embarrassment of Ayushmann's life

Tanishk Bagchi's music and Vayu's ecstatic lyrics make for an instantly likable tune for Badhaai Ho's first song.

Shriram Iyengar

Ayushmann Khurrana might come across as a little embarrassed in the film Badhaai Ho, but Tanishk Bagchi's music might lighten the load. The composer manages to turn a traditional celebration song 'Badhaaiyan Tenu' into something more funny, peppy and memorable in this opening to the soundtrack of Amit Sharma's film.

The song is set around the initial outbreak of the embarrassing news of Ayushmann Khurrana's father in the film having another kid. As the hero of the film struggles to deal with the ridicules of his friends, and girlfriend (Sanya Malhotra), things just keep getting complicated. The sight of Khurrana's hero grumbling and muttering while his parents (Neena Gupta and Gajraj Singh) experience a mix of pride and embarrassment is hilarious.

The song itself is quite the celebration. Bagchi's composition echoes the traditional celebratory song often heard at weddings and baby showers. However, he layers it with some funky beats that make the song pop. The music keeps moving along the rhythm of Vayu's very eclectic lyrics.

The lyricist brings some very absurd humour that plays on the situation faced by the family. From missed calls to accidentally shooting flying elephants, Vayu's imagery is perfectly in sync with the absurdity of the whole drama.

The song is sung by Brijesh Shandailya, Romy and Jordan, each of whom brings a different element. The nasal pitch and snarky attitude to the song is very entertaining and adds to the humour.

Badhaai Ho is set to be released in theatres on 19 October.
