Mahesh Bhatt celebrates turning 70 with teaser of his next directorial, Sadak 2

After its initial announcement in November 2017, the first teaser for Mahesh Bhatt's Sadak 2 promises to go further from the original story of the 1991 cult classic.

The film is set to be released on 25 March 2020, and will feature Alia Bhatt, Aditya Roy Kapur, alongside the stars of the original film, Sanjay Dutt and Pooja Bhatt. 

This is the first time Mahesh Bhatt will be directing both his daughters, Pooja and Alia, in the same film. The teaser begins with the few scenes from the original film, featuring Dutt and Pooja, before it segues into the title. The title begins with a voice humming the tune to the song 'Hum Tere Bin' from the original and is replaced by an ominous crescendo setting the tone for the film. 

While Aditya Roy Kapur and Alia are expected to play the new age lovers, Dutt and Pooja are speculated to reprise their original roles in the current era.

In an earlier interview to Times Now, a news channel, Dutt had said, "Sadak 2 is a very emotional film. It starts with Ravi [Sanjay Dutt's character in Sadak]. It's many many years later after Sadak, it's a journey with this young girl who is Alia and how she becomes a very important factor in his life to stay alive. It's a very crazy character." 

The teaser's arrival on the 70th birthday of the director was another reason for celebration. Alia took to Instagram to post a unique picture of her father on the occassion and thanked him for casting her.

The film marks the return of Mahesh Bhatt to the director's chair. His last film as director was another Sanjay Dutt-starrer, Kartoos, back in 1999. Since then, he has been focused on the production side of Vishesh Films.
