FryDay song: Chotey Bade! Varun Sharma gets a taste of vintage Govinda in peppy Mika Singh track

In 1998, David Dhawan had cast Amitabh Bachchan and Govinda in his comedy Bade Miyan Chote Miyan. Naturally, Big B was Bade Miyan while Govinda was Chote Miyan.

Twenty years on, Govinda has graduated to being Badey while Varun Sharma is now Chotey, though, of course, Abhishek Dogra’s FryDay is no remake of the David Dhawan film.

The makers of FryDay released the 'Chotey Badey' song on Wednesday. The USP of the song, penned by Anurag Bhomia, is not the lyrics but the peppy music combined with a vintage show by Govinda and Mika Singh.

With Mika Singh at the microphone, it is never easy to gauge the words flowing through his vocal chords. Ankit Tiwari is the voice of Sharma, but he is simply overshadowed by the powerful voice of Mika Singh.

Despite the lyrics being hard to gauge, and certainly not poetic, you can’t help but admire the song for the music and the choreography. He may be 54, but Govinda still has the energy to put a much younger man to shame.

There has seldom been an actor in the Hindi film industry who gets so immersed in a dance number. He is flawless with his desi, inimitable moves, but his expressions and bright smile make you want to jump out of bed and start dancing. 

Now Varun Sharma is no Govinda, so it is unfair to expect him to match up to the legend. The young actor might never even have dreamt of sharing the stage with Govinda. Let’s just say the Fukrey Returns (2017) actor is simply basking in these moments.

Choreographer Ahmed Khan comes up with some crazy desi moves. What also stand out are the costumes the actors are donning. Leather jackets, harem pants and sports shoes! The song is truly rich in visuals. Mika Singh himself could not resist making a little dance appearance.

As a package, 'Chotey Badey' is indeed a number that you shouldn't miss. Watch the track below and tell us whether you will be watching FryDay in the theatres when it is released on 12 October.
