In the past eight years, actor Gulshan Devaiah has played all kinds of parts, with shades of grey attached to many of them. He joins the successful Commando franchise starring Vidyut Jammwal as the villain of the new upcoming film which is currently under production.

The first two instalments had actor Jaideep Ahlawat and actress Esha Gupta as the antagonist and this time, Devaiah wants to make sure his interpretation will differ from the previous films. Both he and lead actor Jammwal made their Hindi film debuts around the same time and will be coming together for the first time in Commando 3.

“There are certain expectations with franchises such as Commando 3. Besides giving the audience what they expect, I intend to give them something more than what they would otherwise expect. I have always diversified myself in the roles and characters I’ve played. I’m trying to bring in my own creative interpretation of what a modern antagonist is. The makers have had no restrictions and have given me the liberty to bring out the character in my own creative way. I’ve done all the research and have been preparing for the film for the past two months. So it’s now time to put the ideas out there and see what works best for the film," the actor said.

He continued, “It’s fun to be undergoing this process and try new creative ways with my co-actors. I’m working with many of them in the team for the first time including Vidyut. We as a team are taking this in a forward direction and coming up with something new as to what an action franchise can be in terms of storytelling and characters, based in current times with a commercial mass appeal.”

Co-starring actresses Adah Sharma and Angira Dhar, Commando 3 is directed by Aditya Datt.

Interestingly, Devaiah has a double role in the recent Toronto International Film Festival award winner Mard Ko Dard Nahin Hota (2018) directed by Vasan Bala. He plays a one-legged karate master Mani and his twin, the evil villain Jimmy. Judging from his work in the action pleaser, Devaiah would surely be creating something intriguing for his next film.
