Actor Anupam Kher, along with his American co-star Janet Montgomery, visited the Nasdaq MarketSite at Times Square, New York, to ring the opening bell at 9.30am on 17 September. The artistes were promoting their upcoming television series, New Amsterdam, which premieres on 25 September 2018 on NBC. Kher plays Dr Vijay Kapoor on the medical drama about the oldest public hospital in America.

The Indian actor shared his excitement and honour at being selected for the honour. He posed before the digital Nasdaq sign in Times Square which announced his arrival.

He also put up a behind-the-scenes video leading up to the ringing of the bell and talked what an achievement it was to reach this stage in his career. He explained to his co-star Montgomery, “Coming from a small town in Shimla, it’s a big thing. It’s called anything is possible, kuch bhi ho sakhta hai.”

However, Kher is not the first Indian artiste to be invited to ring the opening bell. In February 2010, actor Shah Rukh Khan and actress Kajol were the first Indian stars invited to the ring the bell at the New York Stock Exchange. Since then, stars like Preity Zinta and Saif Ali Khan have rung the opening and closing bell at the American financial institution.

Kher is among a handful of Indian artistes appearing on American television this season. Actor-comedian Vir Das and actor Suraj Sharma will also been seen on different shows later this year.
