The South Indian Artistes' Association, better known as the Nadigar Sangam, on Monday condoled the death of one of its senior members, Captain Raju, who passed away early this morning.
In a statement, the Nadigar Sangam said, "We are deeply shocked and pained to know about the demise of one of our veteran members, popular actor Captain Raju. He was someone who, out of his immense interest in theatre, had started acting in plays even while serving in the Army. He had even begun a theatre group along with friends in Mumbai while in the Army."
"He made his debut in films through the Malayalam film Ratham in 1980. He has acted in over 500 films in the last 37 years. He also became a director by directing the Vikram-starrer, Idha Oru Sneha Kadha in Malayalam.
"Raju has the distinction of playing the villain in all the superstar films of the south. Some of the important films that he has acted in Tamil include, Dharmathin Thalaivan, Soorasamharam, Jeeva, En Jeevan Paaduthu and Rajakumaran."
