I am not playing a ghost in Batti Gul Meter Chalu, jokes Shraddha Kapoor

Fresh from the success of Stree, actress Shraddha Kapoor is now looking forward to her next release, Batti Gul Meter Chalu, which also stars Shahid Kapoor and Yami Gautam. During a media interaction, Shraddha spoke about her character in the film.

“She is very far from what I am as a person. This is something that interested me as well. She is more voicy, speaks at a higher pitch and she thinks she is the most amazing fashion designer in the world and her designs are the best in Tehri Garhwal. She feels she can give takkar to [compete with] Manish Malhotra,” she said. 

However, there is a twist in the tale. “But she is the opposite. She has no sense of fashion. But she believes she has,” Shraddha added, laughing. 

Continuing with the funny banter, the actress joked that she neither dies nor has a rain scene in this film. “It’s so refreshing that it didn’t rain in the film and I didn’t get wet. And I am not dying in the film. It also didn’t rain in Stree. So many journalists have asked me jokingly if I have this in my contract [that she would either die or get wet in the rain],” she said, adding, “I am not playing a ghost in the film.”

On a serious note, Shraddha spoke on why Batti Gul Meter Chalu is an important film for her. “It’s my first socially relevant film that deals with an issue smaller towns face today. And it’s a very important issue. We don’t know the kind of pressure people from small towns face with regard to being fleeced for electricity [bills],” she said.

She also admitted that her career didn’t have a good start with the debut film Teen Patti (2010), directed by Leena Yadav, and credits filmmakers Aditya Chopra and Mohit Suri for resurrecting it by offering Luv Ka The End (2011) and Aashiqui 2 (2013). 

“He [Aditya Chopra] is one of the most important people in my life because he believed in me when nobody did. Whenever my films have done well, he has messaged me. He, as well as, Mohit Suri. Both of them offered me films when nobody wanted to cast me. I was cast for films and I was just replaced, even after cutting a cake,” she recalled. 

Directed by Shree Narayan Singh, Batti Gul Meter Chalu is all set to be released on 21 September.
