Kishore Kumar trailer: Kaushik Ganguly gives dramatic, musical tribute to legendary singer

The trailer of Kaushik Ganguly’s upcoming film Kishore Kumar Junior has been launched. Kishore Kumar Junior is Prosenjit Chatterjee’s second film with the National Award-winning director.

The film is based on the life story of Kishore Konthi (a singer who makes a career by singing only Kishore Kumar songs); however, the trailer suggests that the director has incorporated a lot of twists in it. It begins with two statements in the voice of Aparajita Adhya, who plays the protagonist’s wife in the film. The voice goes: “It takes talent to be an artiste, but to be an artiste’s wife, it takes courage.”

The visuals offer an introduction to the film, which is a fairy tale, a musical and a tribute to a legend. Soon, it cuts to an announcement, declaring that Kishore Kumar Junior and his touring party has gone missing. His son, played by Rwitobroto Mukherjee, is shocked to receive the news that no trace of his parents has been found since they departed from the Jaisalmer airport.

The trailer then offers glimpses into Kishore Kumar Junior’s performances and conflicts with his son, who never pays enough respect to his profession. At the same time, it is shown that Junior and his wife have been detained by some thugs in an obscure place in Rajasthan, where the communal sentiment is at its peak.

Junior resists the pressure of singing Mohammed Rafi songs, threatened by the hooligans. However, the crisis doesn’t stay confined to music, and Junior is seen to be taking up guns for his survival, while his son repents for all the insults he hurled at his father.

The trailer assures that the film is primarily a tribute to the legendary artiste, as Junior shouts at the centre of all the conflicts, “Only one Kishore Kumar is born in a century, bugger!” At the same time, the director has kept in mind the demand of the audience and has infused a lot of drama in it. The film will prove whether the creative liberties taken by the director have made justice to its central theme.

Kishore Kumar Junior will be released on 12 October.
