As the Toronto International Film Festival winds up on 16 September, the festival will surely end on a high for filmmaker Vasan Bala.

His feature film, Mard Ko Dard Nahin Hota, had its world premiere and opened in the Midnight Madness section of the festival in front of an ecstatic crowd that gave it a standing ovation. Even before the screening, there was a long queue for the film of fans eager to watch the Hindi film.

The filmmaker was present with his two leads Abhimanyu Dassani and Radhika Madan. Dassani stars as a crime fighting vigilante who has a congenital insensitivity to pain. Mard Ko Dard Nahin Hota also stars Mahesh Manjrekar and Gulshan Devaiah. Vasan previously worked with Devaiah in his unreleased first film Peddlers (2012).

The Midnight Madness section of the Canadian festival had selected 10 films to be screened every night at 11:59pm which were "guaranteed to either terrorize or mesmerize". It looks Mard Ko Dard Nahin Hota has clearly mesmerized the Toronto audience.

The audience who attended the screening shared their reactions afterwards.

At the question and answer session after screening, moderated by film curator Peter Kuplowsky, the director was even asked about the prospect of a sequel. It seems like the leads Dassani and Madan really want to know as well.

Produced by Ronnie Screwvala, Mard Ko Dard Nahin Hota doesn't have an Indian release date yet.
